Our MOur Mission
Since 1978 our mission at Community Radio, Inc. is to provide comfort, encouragement, and spiritual strength to Christians globally, while also shining as a light for those who are lost.
Through our music and programming, we aim to touch the hearts of individuals of all ages and backgrounds, delivering a message that is both simple and powerful—pointing towards Jesus and celebrating life in Him.
But our ministry doesn't stop with music. Community Radio, Inc. extends its reach through literature, social media, and community events, ensuring that Christian Country Radio is accessible to everyone. We are committed to finding innovative ways to spread positivity and make a difference in the lives of others.
Our history
In the mid-1970s, God gave a young preacher named Robert Vaughn a vision to establish a radio station in Pasadena, Texas. This vision led to the formation of Community Radio, Inc. as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1978.
In 1981, we began broadcasting on 89.3 FM with 118 watts of power, serving as a non-commercial Contemporary Christian Music station. In 1983, we changed frequencies with then, Christian Rock station 88.1 FM KSBJ, which doubled our reach and allowed us to increase our power to 440 watts on 88.1 FM. We then changed our format to Southern Gospel.
In the early 1990s, we established 90.5 FM with a 5,000-watt signal and relocated our studio to Alvin, Texas. By 2003, we sold 88.1 FM, increased our power to 7,700 watts, and in 2009, expanded further to 36,000 watts. For 35 years, KJIC was a premier Southern Gospel radio station, proudly holding the title of the #1 Southern Gospel Station west of the Mississippi. We featured beloved artists from the Gaither Homecoming series and aired the most listened-to show in Southern Gospel, The Gospel Greats.
In 2018, we made a transformative shift from Southern Gospel to Christian Country, blending mainstream country artists, cross-over Christian music artists, and traditional Southern Gospel artists who have embraced country music. This distinctive format sets us apart as Houston's first and only Christian Country radio station. In 2021, we further expanded our reach by acquiring 90.7 FM in Sealy, TX, allowing us to simulcast our 90.5 FM programming and connect with even more listeners across the region.
Our Beliefs
We affirm that the Scriptures serve as the ultimate authority in all matters of doctrine, recognizing that our individual journeys with God vary in depth and understanding. As we continually grow in our knowledge of God's character and His Word, we acknowledge that followers of Jesus Christ are on a journey of increasing comprehension and application of His teachings. While we hold that Truth is not subject to personal interpretation, we approach one another with compassion, recognizing that we are all under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, both collectively and individually.
Furthermore, we affirm that salvation is a gift of grace received through faith in Christ, not by our own merit. The Scriptures, recognized as the infallible and divinely inspired Word of God, serve as the ultimate authority in guiding our beliefs and practices. We affirm the unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as one unified Godhead.
In obedience to Christ's command, we proclaim the gospel to all, inviting individuals to freely choose to follow Christ and discipling those who respond.
In conclusion, we eagerly anticipate the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the redemption of His people. Amen. Hence our call letters - "King Jesus Is Coming"
